This is a Financial Freedom Update post. Each month I report the status of my journey towards more financial freedom and reflect on my progress. To learn more about financial freedom please see my Think Week 2021 post where it all started.

Start of a new year. And this year that means back to a more normal life for me.

I saved 62% of my income in January. Sounds decent at first but I did not pay any rent this month (this was part of the December expenses). So with that in mind I must have had some bigger expenses.

And I had. I bought ‘stuff’ for my apartment. And the personal expense category is also in the high end as I pre-paid some of the expenses for a small ski trip.

Overall I’m fine with my expenses this month. I still don’t feel like I’m back to a stable state where I can compare month to month expenses. But I’m getting there I think.

It’s been quite a few months now that I have not really been able to make much sense of my expenses. And where I have been more relaxed about spending. I have loved that journey and I wonder what it will be like to settle back in to a much more stable rhythm.

It will be good for my finances I’m sure. And I hope it will be good for the rest of my life too.
